Charity Activities

Below is a list of the charitable programs that the USS Commonwealth is involved with.

 

Hailing Frequencies is a program that collects used cell phones to send to U.S. service members stationed over seas so that they can stay in touch with their families.

We just began an exciting program that will help us acquire funding for our operating budget. Through the FundingFactory Recycling Program we are recycling empty printer and Toner cartridges and earning funding for operating budget. The program is FREE and easy, but it won't work without your support.

By recycling items you would normally throw away, we are earning points that we can turn into cash. Not only can we receive cash but we can also turn the points we earn in for office equipment, also we will be doing our part to help save the environment!

With over 300 million cartridges thrown away last year alone, this presents a great opportunity to our organization. Let's make this recycling program a huge success by working together to collect as many empty cartridges and toners as we can.

Members of our crew are actively particparting in help the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI). We are able to do this using software from the SETI website. The Software runs in the background on your PC allowing you to continue to work on your PC while it anaylzes the data that SETI needs Anaylzed. What do you get for SETI using your computer Bragging points.

We have rescently undertaken a new project of called Operation Educate. Opration Educate is a program of which the members of the USS Commonwealth collect Box Tops for Education coupons off of box tops of particapting grocery products which earns money for the school that we have choosen to sponsor for the current school year. If you wish to help us with this endavor please check out the list of grocery products that are working with Box Tops for Education by clicking on the Outta This World image to your left. Then head off to your local gorcery store, purchase anyone of the items from the list, cut off the Box Top for Education box top, place them into a ziplock baggie, and send them to:

Homing Beacon - Our newest undertaking! Homing Beacon is our letter writing campaign to send letters to our troops overseas through the USO. All that you have to do to take part in Homing Beacon is to write letter to any service member. You can not use first and last names, provide contact information, any decorations or glitter, or religious or political comments in the letter you write.

You can either e-mail or snail mail (postal mail) your letters to our Commanding Officer. To e-mail your letter to our CO please put into the sbject line of you mail client "Homing Beacon" and in the body of your e-mail letter "Dear Service Member," then begin you letter. Once you have your e-mail letter ready send it to jcecil922930@att.net.

For snail mail (postal mail) begin your letter with "Dear Service Member," besure not to enclude your name and address when you close your letter and send your letter to our CO's address which is:
